ORGANIZATIONS
AND EVENTS
If you are interested
in storytelling organizations, the place to begin is the National
Storytelling Network. Their website can point you toward
many regional organizations and events to help you find a group
in your area.
Those who are new to
storytelling might not have heard of the National
Storytelling Festival. Held each October in Jonesborough,
TN, it is the largest of the storytelling festivals and an annual
priority on many people's calendars.
One example of a particularly
active and innovative regional organization is the Northlands Storytelling Network.
While the annual conference (held in Madison, WI the last weekend
in April) is primarily for those in surrounding states, storytellers
from all over the country show up to be a part of the gathering.
In recent years, the
number of conferences and festivals devoted to storytelling has
grown tremendously all across the nation. If you happen to live
anywhere near Chicago, one of the best regional experiences is
the Illinois
Storytelling Festival held each year in Spring Grove, IL.
The Nebraska Storytelling Festival is a great option for those
in the center of the country. A June event, it typically includes
some of the best storytellers in the nation.
